Model 01 · Desk
One lamp, made from three materials that age differently. Cast ceramic for weight, brushed aluminium for the reach, and a shade thin enough to warm at the edge when the light is on.

Construction
Everything that holds the lamp together is inside it. The pivot takes the weight of the arm at full reach, and the base is heavy enough that the whole thing stays put when you move the shade with one hand. Select a part above to isolate it.
Materials
Each is chosen for how it ages rather than how it photographs. The orange is the exception and it is meant to be.

Grain runs along the length so raking light reads as a single sweep. Anodised rather than lacquered, so it dulls evenly instead of chipping.
A soft-touch polymer that swallows reflections. The only finish where the shade disappears and you notice the light instead of the object.
A powder coat matched to a 1970s machine-tool orange. Made in batches of fifty, which is as many as the sprayer will do before the colour drifts.
The family
The original. Sized for a working surface, weighted so the arm holds position at full reach without a clamp.
A lamp should be the last thing you replace in a room.

Care
A damp cloth, nothing else. The unglazed rim will darken slightly where it is handled, which is the finish doing what it was chosen to do.
Leave it. The anodised grain wears evenly and reads better after a year than it does new. Polishing it will make one patch brighter than the rest and you will notice that forever.
The LED module unscrews from underneath with a single collar. No tools, no soldering, and no reason for a failed light to become a failed lamp.
The friction collar takes a 2.5 mm hex key. A quarter turn is usually enough. If the arm still drops, the collar is worn and we will send a new one.
